For the convenience of Queens University of Charlotte students, faculty, and staff, Everett Library offers laptop computers available for checkout from the Public Services Desk for a period of 2 hours at a time.
I. Circulation Loan Period
- Laptops circulate to university affiliated patrons only--students, faculty, & staff.
- Laptops circulate for a 2-hr loan period, Monday through Friday. Laptops are NOT available on weekends.
- Laptops circulate on a first-come, first-served basis. They may NOT be reserved in advance.
- You MUST present a valid Queens University of Charlotte ID in order to check-out a laptop.
- Laptops may be checked out no later than 4pm and MUST be returned to the Public Services Desk no later than 6pm.
- Laptops are to be used in the library only and may not be taken outside of the building.
- Overdue fines for laptops are $5.00 per hour.
II. Laptop Responsibility Agreement
- Once a laptop is checked-out to a patron, it becomes the responsibility of that patron.
- Patrons are responsible for replacing missing or damaged parts, or the entire cost of the laptop if lost. The cost of replacing a laptop is $2000.00 minimum.
- Each year, patrons must sign a Laptop Responsibility Agreement in order to be eligible to check-out a laptop. By signing the agreement, the patron agrees to be responsible for the replacement cost of all equipment checked out by him/her.
III. Technical Specifications
- Laptops are wired and wireless capable.
- Laptops run on Microsoft Windows XP and are loaded with Microsoft Office 2003.
IV. Frequently Asked Questions
Can I print using a laptop? No. You will need to save your work on a flash drive or other storage device and print elsewhere.
If I want a network connection, do I need a network cable? No, wireless is available on the first and second floors of Everett Library.
Will I need a power cord? No, laptops are battery powered (2-hr battery life).
Is there a CD-ROM drive? Yes, and it will also play DVDs.
May I check out a mouse? No, we do not have external mice available.
May I renew the laptop? Yes, if no one else is waiting for one.
May I save my work to the laptop? No. When the machine is turned off, all data is lost. You must save your work elsewhere (flash drive, etc.).
May I have a drink while I have the laptop? No. Even though drinks in closed containers are permitted in the library, you should never have one near a laptop.
May I leave the laptop in the library while I go to class, get a snack, etc.? Laptops found unattended by library staff will be picked up and returned to the Public Services Desk and you will forfeit the remainder of your time on the laptop.
