Legal Issues and Trends in the Nursing Practice
This one-day program will explore the most common legal perils facing today’s nurse. Some of the topics that will be examined include lawsuit trends, high-risk practice areas, high-risk situations/communications and strategies to help avoid being named in a lawsuit. Heavy emphasis is placed on documentation as this is the most frequent source of litigation for nurses. Participants are highly encouraged to bring specific questions/concerns. Time will also be allotted for participants with an interest in pursuing a medical-legal career. *Due to course dynamics, space is limited. Early registration is strongly encouraged. 7.0 contact hours will be awarded for this course.
Instructor: Pam Collins, RN, MSN, CMSRN, LNC has more than 15 years experience in the medical-legal field. She is the founder and CEO of Consultation On-Call, a consulting firm that specializes in continuing education, performance improvement and medical-legal services. She is a national speaker and has presented extensively throughout the country on legal and clinical topics.

Nurse Aide I Training Program
The Nurse Aide I program prepares students to provide respected health care services in a field that is in high demand. This course consists of both classroom and clinical training and is open to individuals in the community as well as those individuals entering the Queens Presbyterian School of Nursing program or other nursing programs. At the end of the course, students take a comprehensive exam in preparation for their state competency exam. All instructors are experienced RN’s and possess at minimum of a BSN degree.
Location: All classes take place at the Presbyterian School of Nursing, 5th Street Campus (Registration confirmation will include directions to campus/parking and required documentation.) Fee: $450 (Includes textbook and other course materials)

Nurse Aide I Refresher Course
If you need a refresher of your CNA skills to take the state competency exam, or have moved from another state and need to familiarize yourself with North Carolina skills requirements, this course will meet your needs. This two (2) day class reviews key information and preparation needed for completing the skills portion of the state competency exam.

Cardiac Medicine and Cardiac Surgery Certification Review
This 2-day course is designed to prepare nurses providing care to cardiac patients to take the new AACN Adult Cardiac Medicine (CMC) or Cardiac Surgery (CSC) Subspecialty Certification exam. Although a current, national certification is required to take the exams, nurses caring for these patients in any setting can benefit by taking this course. The Cardiac Surgery content is focused on the care of patients in the first 48 hours post-operatively. The Cardiac Medicine content focuses on the care of acutely and critically ill cardiac patients. Critical Care/Progressive Care Nursing Review - FULL
This two-day course is designed to prepare nurses caring for acutely and critically ill adults to take the adult CCRN (Critical Care) or PCCN (Progressive Care) certification exam offered by the AACN Certification Corporation. End-of-Life Critical Care Nursing
Nurses spend more time with patients at end-of-life than any other healthcare professional. Critical care nurses who are well educated in end-of-life care have the unique opportunity to significantly impact the quality of care provided for critically, terminally ill patients. This one-day class is based on the ELNEC-Critical Care Curriculum (End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium). Legal-ethical considerations, symptom management strategies, and evidence-based practices related to the initiation and withdrawal of artificial support will be discussed. The focus will be on providing the participant with tools to use to influence changes in practice. This course is offered in partnership with the local Association of Critical Care Nurses.

Faith Community Nurse Preparation Institute
Plan to attend this specialized training program that prepares registered nurses to deliver holistic, primary healthcare in congregations, focusing on the intentional care of the spirit as part of the health and to promote wellness or minimize illness in a faith community.
Instructors: Dr. Joan S. McGill, Professor Emeritus, Vail Program of Nursing at Queens University of Charlotte. BSN, Case Western Reserve University; MSN, University of Kentucky; DSN, University of Alabama at Birmingham. Nursing expertise in gerontology, global health, curriculum and leadership. She is a trained leader in Stephen Ministry and has completed the Parish Nurse Preparation Institute and Faculty Preparation Institute from the International Parish Nurse Resource Center. Janie Best, Instructor, Presbyterian School of Nursing at Queens University of Charlotte has also completed Parish Nursing . She has also completed training from the Parish Nurse Preparation Institute and the International Parish Nurse Resource Center.
