CHARLOTTE, N.C. (September 24, 2007) — Queens University of Charlotte has hired John Handrigan as head coach of its Royals men’s and women’s golf team, one of 16 NCAA Division II teams on the University’s campus.
“I am grateful and excited for the opportunity to lead Queens in both men’s and women’s golf,” said Handrigan. “I see both programs as being very talented with great potential to succeed at the highest level in Division II golf. I look forward to challenging each player with my knowledge and experience in coaching and competitive golf.”
Handrigan joins the Royals staff after four years with the Coker Cobras men’s golf team. There, he oversaw all aspects of the College’s NCAA Division II Golf Program, was named the 2005 Carolina Virginia Athletics Conference Coach of the Year and the 2006 NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Coach of the Year. Prior to this position, Handrigan worked at Saint Francis University, his alma mater, as the assistant coach for the men’s golf team.
Handrigan received a bachelor’s of science degree from Saint Francis University in 2000. As an undergraduate student he was a member of the Red Flash men’s golf team for four years. His accomplishments while attending Saint Francis were many, including golfer of the year honors, breaking several school records and being named the 2000 Student Male Athlete of the Year. While serving as the assistant coach for the Red Flash men’s golf team, Handrigan attended Saint Francis University as a graduate student and in 2002 received his master’s degree in business administration.
Handrigan is a member of the Golf Coaches Association of America, an NCAA Registered Recruiter, member of the GCAA/Bridgestone Coaches Ranking/Selection Committee and a Carolina Virginia Athletic Conference Golf Representative.
“We are so thrilled to have the caliber of experience and leadership that John brings to our program,” said Queens’ Athletics Director Jeannie King. “We believe his contributions will make an immediate positive impact on our programs.”
