Charlotte, N.C. (Aug. 20, 2009) – Adults now have a way to build up their resumes in preparation for career changes while still working.
Seats are still available for the inaugural class of students in the new Certificate in Business Foundations program at Queens University of Charlotte. The certificate will provide a well-rounded view of business fundamentals and current business practices, providing critical tools in this ever -tightening job market.
“The curriculum is designed for adult learners who have earned degrees in other subject areas and those who may be considering study toward an MBA in the future,” said Krista Tillman, dean of Queens’ Hayworth College for Adult Studies.
Students who have already enrolled say they were motivated by moves to new positions that require a more robust understanding of business fundamentals or because they are preparing to launch ventures of their own.
Courses have been developed and will be taught by the acclaimed McColl School of Business faculty with classes starting this fall.
“Feedback from the ‘Careers in Transition’ seminar series we offered last winter showed there is great demand among professional adults for help in re-tooling,” Tillman said. “Many shared that they are finding much has changed in the business world since they were in college and they need some help to prepare for their next career steps.”
To make the transition back to school successful, Hayworth College offers a robust support package for adult students. It includes merit scholarship programs, career transition assistance, tutoring, and optional health insurance and childcare.
The business certificate includes eight courses that cover management, marketing, financial and managerial accounting, macro- and microeconomics, statistics and corporate finance. For more information on it and other ways Queens serves adult learners, visit www.queens.edu/adultstudies.
