Charlotte, N.C. (Aug. 20, 2009) – Queens University of Charlotte ranked 23rd among the 121 master’s universities in the South, according to the 2010 U.S. News & World Report America’s “Best Colleges” list released Aug. 20.
In the national rankings of more than 1,400 schools, Queens tied for second place in the United States for the number of 2008 graduates who had studied abroad. More than 90 percent of Queens students complete international experiences before they graduate through the John Belk International Program. The program sends students on tours, immersive language programs, and on month- and semester-long study programs. Students have mostly recently traveled to Micronesia, Hong Kong, Vietnam, South Africa and across Europe.
Queens earned the second highest overall ranking among N.C. private universities in that category, behind only Elon which was ranked no. 2. This is the third consecutive year that Queens has ranked among the top 25 schools in that category.
“We are proud to be considered among the best universities in the South that offer master’s level education,” said Dr. Pamela Davies, president of Queens. “We have experienced tremendous growth in recent years and are continually building upon that momentum. Above all, we are intently focused on providing transformational experiences for our students.”
Queens also ranked 17th for its graduation rate in the Southern master’s category, and 15th for the percentage of classes with fewer than 20 students.
Queens is thriving. The university boasts five N.C. Professors of the Year – the most from any school in the state – and 16 NCAA Division II athletic teams. In September, it will host a grand opening celebration for its new Sports Complex on Tyvola Road with a welcome center and fieldhouse, as well as an outdoor championship field that will be home to its lacrosse and soccer teams.
Queens University of Charlotte is a private, co-ed, Presbyterian-affiliated comprehensive university with a commitment to liberal arts and professional studies. Located in the heart of historic Charlotte, Queens serves approximately 2,300 undergraduate and graduate students through its College of Arts and Sciences, the McColl School of Business, the Presbyterian School of Nursing, the Wayland H. Cato, Jr. School of Education, the School of Communication and Hayworth College for Adult Studies.
