CHARLOTTE, N.C. (September 22, 2009) - Teaching Fellows and Queens Education Professor To Present at ASCD National Convention
At the 2010 ASCD annual convention, Critical Transformations, four Teaching Fellows at Queens University of Charlotte, as well as Dr. Christopher Law who teaches within the Wayland H. Cato, Jr. School of Education and the Public Education Research Institute at Queens, will be presenting the results of the Teaching Fellows work as freshmen and sophomores in urban schools within Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.
The conference will be held in San Antonio, Texas, March 6-8, 2010.
The session where these students and their professor will be presenting, Community Collaboration: A Win-Win Formula, will focus on the experience of this year's sophomores in the Teaching Fellows Program at Billingsville Elementary School last school year and Bishop Spaugh Community Academy this school year.
These Teaching Fellows were paired with classroom teachers to assist in raising student achievement levels in reading and math. The presenters will describe the process and the effect on the elementary school and the middle school, as well as on the students' preservice experiences. Special emphasis will be placed on how this yearlong experience influences presevice teacher preparation in an urban setting.
In addition to having the opportunity to assist in the presentation, these Teaching Fellows will be attending many other sessions presentation by nationally-known experts in the field of education.
