1. WHAT ARE THE PRE-REQUISITES TO APPLY THE TO BSN PROGRAM AT QUEENS UNIVERSITY OF CHARLOTTE (QUC)?
The pre-requisites for admission to the BSN program for classes starting January 2009 and August 2009 are different and are listed here for each admissions class.
2. WHAT KIND OF GRADES ARE REQUIRED IF I WANT TO APPLY TO THE BSN?
In order to apply the BSN you must have:
• a minimum of 36 hours of college work
• a cumulative gpa in all college work of 2.50.
• a minimum grade of “C-“ is all pre-req courses and
• a prerequisite GPA no lower than a 2.5
The higher the gpa the better chance of admission.
3. WHAT IS THE APPLICATION PROCESS AND DEADLINES?
The BSN program at QUC admits students for January and August admission.
The deadline for application for admission starting January 2009 is September 15, 2008. Decisions are mailed mid-November. Student must confirm acceptance of admission offer by Dec to confirm place in the class or spot is forfeited.
The deadline for application for admission starting August 2009 will be posted by September 2008.
4. HOW DO I APPLY TO THE BSN PROGRAM?
Step one in the BSN admission process is to be accepted to Queens. For information on that process, see http://www.queens.edu/prospective-students/default.asp
Applications to the BSN program may be downloaded from the Queens website: http://www.queens.edu/nursing/ and mailed to the address on the application.
5. HOW MANY STUDENTS ARE ACCEPTED IN THE BSN PROGRAM?
The BSN program at PSN is approved for 180 pre-licensure students. The actual number admitted for any semester depends on the number of students are currently enrolled.
6. I AM STILL WORKING ON PREREQUISITES, CAN I STILL APPLY?
Yes, you can apply to the program while you are working on prerequisites. Prerequisites usually must be completed by the time you start the nursing program. There are special exceptions to the prerequisite rule for those applying for Jan 2009 only. See FAQ question: WHAT ARE THE PRE-REQUISITES TO APPLY THE BSN PROGRAM AT QUC?
7. WHAT ARE MY CHANCES OF BEING ADMITTED TO THE BSN PROGRAM?
Admission to the BSN program at Queens is competitive. Students must have completed, or be in the process of completing all pre-requisite courses and must have a minimum cumulative GPA of a 2.5 with a required "C-" or higher in all pre-requites courses. However, meeting these requirements does not guarantee admission to the College; the higher the gpa, the better the chance of admission. The number and quality of the applicants determine competitiveness of each applicant pool.
8. DOES IT HELP MY ADMISSION PROSPECTS TO TAKE COURSES AT QUEENS?
Prerequisite courses may be taken at any accredited college or university. However, when the number of qualified applicants exceeds the number that can be admitted, the number of hours taken at Queens is taken into consideration.
9. IF I AM CURRENTLY IN A NURSING PROGRAM AT ANOTHER INSTITUTION, MAY I TRANSFER INTO THE BSN PROGRAM AT QUEENS?
It is not advisable for students who are already in a nursing program at another school to attempt to transfer into Queens’ BSN nursing program. To transfer into the Queens program requires a petition process and a detailed evaluation of each course taken at the other school to assess equivalency and to determine remaining course work. It generally will take a student much longer to complete the requirements of QUC PSN than it would take if the student remained in the original program. Also, there is no guarantee that the transferring student will be admitted into the QUC program.
