Admissions Advising Visits
Students seeking information about the Presbyterian School of Nursing are encouraged to visit our 5th St. campus.
The campus is located at 1901 East 5th St. in Charlotte, NC (1st floor). Walk-ins are welcome Monday through Friday from 10:00-11:00 a.m. or 3:00-4:00 p.m. If you would like to visit outside of walk-in hours, you must schedule an appointment by sending an email to PSONAdmissions@queens.edu or by calling (704) 337-2276 (option 1). Two-hour parking is available around our building and along 5th Street. Please do not park at Kings College, the Presbyterian Hospital Child Development Center, or the park behind our building or your car may be ticketed and/or towed. Admissions Deadlines
The Office of Admissions reserves the right to extend the admissions deadline when warranted.
The next session will begin in Summer 2010.
Deadline for early decision - September 21, 2009
Regular deadline - January 15, 2010
Admissions Criteria
Accelerated BSN applicants must meet the following admissions requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in an unrelated field (from an accredited institution)
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or minimum prerequisite GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills - This will be demonstrated through a personal essay and interview.
- Course prerequisites must be successfully completed prior to enrollment - A minimum grade of C- is required for all course prerequisites.
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Level 1 certification and listing in NCBON registry prior to enrollment
Applicants that have met the admissions criteria (including completion of course prerequisites and CNA requirement) are encouraged to apply by the early decision deadline.
Registration with the NC Department of Facilities Services as a Certified Nursing Assistant I is required prior to enrollment (not prior to applying). Applicants should be advised that this may be a lengthy process and is typically begun 9-12 months prior to the month in which the applicant wishes to enroll. Queens offers the Nurse Aid I program through Hayworth College. For more information visit the Center for Lifelong Learning.
Application Requirements
- Completed undergraduate application - Please do not complete the online application for Hayworth College.
- $40 non-refundable application fee (personal check or money order only) - A $30 fee will be charged for returned checks.
- One official transcript from all colleges and/or universities attended
- Current resume or curriculum vitae
- Letters of recommendation (from non-family members) are strongly encouraged, but not required.
It is recommended that all application documents are submitted in one envelope.
Application Review
The admissions committee will consider the entire admissions application when making a decision. An applicant's academic history will carry the most weight. Applications will be reviewed within 4-6 weeks of the deadline and will be assigned one of three statuses:
Admitted
Waitlisted
Not Admitted
All applicants will be notified of the admissions committee's decision. Admissions decisions are final and cannot be appealed. Admissions decisions will not be given out by phone, email, or in person. If admitted into the program, a deposit will be required.
Clinical Requirements
Students who are admitted into the ABSN option and accept an offer of admission to the nursing program must provide documentation of the following to the Presbyterian School of Nursing. Failure to submit this documentation by the required date may forfeit the admission invitation. Please do not submit documentation prior to acceptance. - Hepatitis B Series or Titer
- The student has the right to accept or reject the
hepatitis B vaccination, but the Hepatitis B Vaccine
Option form must be
signed annually indicating if the student declines.
- Varicella (chickenpox) 2 doses or positive titer. (A
statement of disease is NOT acceptable) |
- Drug Screen (urine)
- Negative urine drug screen obtained within 12 months
prior to admission to the major. |
- Physical examination
- Must be completed within 12 months prior to admission to

- TB Test Status
- Initially a two-step testing Tuberculin (PPD) test
required. A negative PPD is required annually. A positive
reading will necessitate the submission of Record of TB
Screening; this form is available in the School of
Nursing's office. |
- CPR certification
- American Health Association Health Care Provider
- Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Students are to maintain current CPR certification. |
Admissions Information
Students selected for the Accelerated option must have access to a laptop computer with WiFi or high speed internet. Click here to find a list of computer recommendations for Queens students. Also, students must be available for classes or clinical experiences on evenings and weekends (if needed) and provide own transportation.
