Women’s Golf Signs Two

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (June 4, 2003) - With the help of the strongest recruiting class in the history of the program, the 2003-04 Queens University of Charlotte women’s golf team will look to be at the top of the Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference.

Queens’ women’s golf history began just three years ago with Head Coach Laura Covington. "I am extremely excited about the upcoming season," Covington said adding: "In addition to our solid recruiting class, 2002-04 marks the first year for women’s golf to be a CVAC sport."

This year’s additions will be Courtney Noble (St. Helena Island S.C./Beaufort High School) and Catelyn Eddy (Manchester, Conn./East Catholic High School). According to Covington, both will vie for a position at the top of the Royals roster.

According to her résumé, Noble averaged 80 strokes per 18-hole round in the summer of 2002. She was a member of both the women’s and men’s golf teams at Beaufort, earning a total of eight varsity letters in golf. She was named team captain, "Most Valuable Player," and All-Region for her accomplishments on the women’s team in both 2002 and 2003. "Courtney’s strength is her distance game," Covington said. "Her mental game complements her strong play from the tee, and will be her best asset as she makes the transition to collegiate golf."

Eddy comes to Queens averaging 87.5 strokes per 18-hole round. While at East Catholic, she was a three-year varsity letter-winner, the 2003 captain and team "Most Valuable Player," and was named All-State (an honor reserved for the top five female golfers in the state of Connecticut). "Catelyn will be a tremendous asset to the team. Her willingness to work on her game makes her an exceptional find for the Royals," Covington said.

These two recruits should add another layer of depth to the six-person roster. They are exactly the caliber of athlete Queens aims to blend with the existing players.
