Women’s Golf Struggles in Opener

 

Place Eighth at Opening Tournament

 

ANDERSON, S.C. (September 9, 2003) – Queens University of Charlotte’s women’s golf team opened its 2003 season at the Anderson College Invitational on September 8 and 9. The Royals finished eighth out of eight teams at the Brookstone Meadows Golf Club in Anderson, S.C.

Freshman Courtney Noble (St. Helena Island, S.C.) led Queens shooting a 33-over par 177 (84-93) for the two rounds. She finished in 27th at the tournament.  Noble’s classmate Catelyn Eddy (Manchester, Conn.) shot a 193 (95-98) for 38th place.

Senior Sara McCarthy (Richmond, Va.) scored a 185 (98-87), sophomore Martha Morgan (Cunningham, Tenn.) a 196 (102-94) and sophomore Christa Soderstrom (Worcester, Mass.) a 223 (105-118) to round it out for the Royals.

Catawba College won the tournament with a total score of 669. Queens shot a tournament high 751.

The Royals look for a better performance September 13-15 at the Lady Indian Invitational hosted by Catawba College in Salisbury, N.C.
