Royals Compete In Greeneville, Tenn.

 

Eddy leads Queens

 

GREENEVILLE, TENN. (April 7, 2004)The University of Central Arkansas women's golf team held off a second day charge to capture the 2004 Agnes McAmis Memorial Invitational Tournament, held this week at Link Hills Country Club. The No. 12 Bears (NCAA Division II) finished with 633, edging out No. 8 University of West Florida by one shot (634). The Argonauts made a second-day rally posting the lowest day two score in the seven-year history of tournament with 315.

 

Queens failed to qualify at the 12-team event. Catelyn Eddy tied for No. 52 on the leader board shooting a +35 139. Martha Morgan and Sarah McCarthy finished tied for No. 59 at 182 +38.

 

Central Arkansas' Lisa Bowden shot 76-76=152 to capture medallist honors by one stroke. West Florida's Sarah Nicholson and Clara Fornella each finished with 153, including Nicholson who carded a second-round tournament record one-over par 73. Catawba's Paige Haverty finished fourth with 154, while Carolina Ojunian of Lincoln Memorial University shot 157 for fifth place to round out the All-Tournament Team.

 

Lincoln Memorial (No. 22 in NCAA II) finished with 655 and tied for third place with No. 19 Lenoir-Rhyne College. No. 13 University of Southern Indiana finished fifth with 659, followed by No. 25 Wingate University (662), host Tusculum College (663), No. 32 Anderson College (671), No. 18 Catawba (677), Pfeiffer University (684) and Union College (690).

 

Queens is next in action April 17-20 at the CVAC Tournament in Laurinburg, N.C.
