Numbered Lists

         * A hard return is what happens when you simply hit "Enter."  The paragraph ends, and after a blank line, a new paragraph begins.
To create a Numbered list: First type all the items as separate paragraphs with hard returns* between them, like this:

Item one

Item two

Item three

Next, use the cursor to highlight all the items, then click  to apply bullet formatting.  Result:

  1. Item one
  2. Item two
  3. Item three

If the numbered items are all very short, as in the above example, they can remain single-spaced.

If the numbered items are longer, and wrap to more than one line, please insert an extra blank line between each item.

Extra spacing is achieved like this:

  * A soft return is what happens when you hold down the "Shift" key and hit "Enter."  The cursor skips to the next line of the same paragraph.

  1. Type out all of the items as separate paragraphs, as usual, inserting a hard return between each paragraph.

  2. Use the cursor to select all of the items, as usual, and apply the number formatting by clicking the number button on the toolbar.

  3. Now place the cursor at the end of the first item, insert a soft return* (Shift + Enter) and one blank space (Space Bar).  Do likewise for each subsequent item.

  4. The blank space (Space Bar) is critical — otherwise the blank line will not appear between the items on the actual Web page (even though it seems to be there in the Publishing Tool).

* Note that Bulleted lists can be formatted in exactly the same manner.
