| Barbara Merry received her doctorate in French Literature from Cornell University with a dissertation entitled Mennippean Satire in Paul Scarron’s Roman comique. This was published as a monograph under the same title in 1991 by Peter Lang. The vagaries of life have allowed her to experience the art of teaching in many contexts, including outward-bound style experiential learning: canoe-camping and history lessons, in French, following the trail of the French Voyageurs in the great North Woods of Minnesota. She is currently collaborating with the Fédération Internationale de Savate to promote two French Martial Arts-Savate Boxe Francaise (French-style kick boxing) and Canne (Cane fighting)- in the United States. She is preparing a translation of an early 20th century French monograph on these two sports, coordinating training seminars in the North America for the Comité Nationale de Canne et Bâton, and translating promotional documents for the upcoming Savate World Championships. | ||||
