Miss Anne Batten
, Queens Alumna, Class of 1936, donated her treasured collection of books, pamphlets and memorabilia to Everett Library along with a gift of $10,000 to establish the Anne Batten Mecklenburg History Reading Room.

Miss Batten, a life long teacher in the Charlotte Mecklenburg Public Schools, was an avid collector of materials documenting the history of Mecklenburg County.  She was a founding member of the Latta Planation and Hezikiah Alexander House located at the Charlotte History Museum.  Also, she was a founding member of the Levine Museum of the New South.

Miss Batten's Mecklenburg History Reading Room is located in Everett Library on the 1st Floor.  Included in the collection are many books, pamphlets and memorabilia that are rich with research opportunities for those wishing to know more about the history of our region.

The collection is available to patrons of Everett Library with help from a librarian.  Please contact Dr. Carol Walker Jordan at 704-337-2400 for questions and assistance.

Everett's operating hours are available by phone at 704 337-2401.
