For the Media
Simply typing an email address on a page will cause it to become a live link. This is sufficient for non-Queens email addresses.
However, Queens has a special protocol for our own internal email addresses.
Do not type the address directly on the page. Instead:
- Type the name of the person (or department or office) who will receive the email.
- Highlight (select) the full text of the name, then click on the
link icon.
- In the top row of the Link dialog box (the HREF field), enter this:
http://www.queens.edu/queensmail.asp?mail=somebody@queens.edu
The "http://" will already be there, and of course you need to replace "somebody@queens.edu" with the actual email address.
- Click "Insert Link" to finish creating the email link.
- It looks "clean," is easier to read, and appears both friendly and professional.
- Many people who wish to email us at queens, particularly prospective students, may not have email accounts/programs of their own, or may be visiting our on a computer that is not theirs, such as a library terminal. If the computer they are using does not have any email software installed (as is sometimes the case with public-use PCs), the basic default email link will not work for them.
- Information Technology Services designed a module called QueensMail which allows people without email software to send us email through the Queens web site itself. Thus, formatting all Queens email links in this way ensures we do not lose any potential messages.
