Student Activities
Queens University of Charlotte realizes that, as important as academic activities are, much of a student's education occurs outside of the classroom. Day-to-day living experiences and campus activities are valuable components of a well-rounded education. Through group participation and interaction, students come to know themselves as individuals, realize their opportunities and develop the skills needed to become creative members of the University community. To stimulate this process, the University encourages student initiative and responsibility through Student Government, the honor system and a variety of student organizations.

The Office of Student Activities focuses on the "total student" and provides educational, recreational, spiritual, social and cultural opportunities outside the classroom. We work with student leaders to plan and implement quality programs throughout the year. Queens is a small community, so it is easy to get involved in all aspects of the college experience. Students are encouraged and supported in brainstorming ideas, promoting activities and bringing local and regional entertainers to campus. Last year, our students planned over 150 events!

Student Government Association
The Student Government Association is the governing body of student clubs and organizations on campus.

“We, the students of Queens University of Charlotte, in order to create a spirit of Unity within the college community, establish high standards of Integrity and Honor, insure the guardianship of Student Rights, afford students the instruments of Self-Governance, promote a sense of Individual Responsibility, secure Cooperation and Communication between students and administrators, and provide channels for the growth of Leadership and development of Legislation, Justice, and Activities among the students of the college of Arts and Sciences.”
     — from the Student Government Association Constitution

Regulations Governing Student Organizations
Recognition
Any group of students may apply for recognition as a student organization by submitting the following to the Office of Student Activities:

Recognition is obtained from Student Life.

Privileges
All registered and recognized student organizations that are not under a disciplinary prohibition enjoy certain rights and privileges.

These include the following:

Responsibilities
It should be understood that each recognized organization is subject to the rules and regulations of Queens University of Charlotte and to the review and decisions of the University. An organization found in violation of any of the provisions of its constitution, bylaws or any regulations/policies of the University may be disciplined and/or subject to revocation of its recognition. An administrative hearing may revoke recognition of any organization. Such revocation may result in the loss of all rights and privileges.

Responsibilities an organization accepts upon recognition are:

Registering a New Organization
If you are interested in starting a club that does not exist at Queens, you are encouraged to do so. Organizations emerge when individuals with a common interest, or skill, seek to go beyond and develop a greater understanding of their skill or interest.

If you or a group of students are interested in forming a new organization, here are a few steps to get you started:

  1. Meet with a member of the Student Activities staff to discuss your ideas.

At this meeting, you will be asked the following questions:
What is the purpose of this organization?

Do you know of any other clubs or office on campus that meets this need/purpose already?

Where did the idea for this organization come from?

What other students are interested in this organization?

Have you held an interest meeting?

Do you have at least ten CAS students interested in serving as the core group?

Do you have a faculty/staff advisor in mind?

Is there a national organization with which you will want to affiliate?

Do you know what kinds of programs or events you will offer to the Queens' community?

How much of a budget will this organization need to get started?

How will the organization be structured?

  2. Once these questions have been answered, the interested group of students will write a constitution and bylaws for the organization in order to outline the basic purpose of the organization and set parameters that govern the action and activities of the organization. An outline and sample constitution and bylaws are available through the Office of Student Activities. It is not necessary to follow this form exactly, but it is important to include all areas that apply.

  3. Complete a Student Organization Registration form and submit it to the Office of Student Activities with the constitution and bylaws. A committee through Student Life may review the request.

  4. Once the organization has been approved, attend a Senate meeting to introduce the new club to campus. At this time, a budget may be proposed to Senate for review. Be sure to provide the Office of Student Activities and Senate with a copy of the constitution and bylaws.

For more information, contact the Director of Student Activities at 704 337-2263.

Arguably the most popular event of the year! A formal attire event with music, dancing and casino tables galore! Not a tradition to be missed!

Chapel
Weekly worship service is celebrated Thursdays from 11:15-11:45am in the Belk Chapel. All members of the Queens community are invited to attend this simple worship service that often features the Gospel Choir, student musicians, speakers from off-campus, and a sharing of joys and concerns.

Exam Break Breakfast
Enjoy late night bacon, eggs, grits, pastries, and pancakes cooked and served by your favorite professors and staff members the night before exams begin. Come out for games, prizes, and possibly a guest appearance or two!

Fall and Spring Activities Fairs
The Fairs are information-packed events where students can learn about on and off campus activities. Representatives from student organizations, human services agencies, and campus services are on hand to discuss opportunities and answer questions.

Family Weekend
Parents and families are invited to enjoy the Queens campus, meet faculty, staff and friends, enjoy sporting events, and take in special on-campus programs.

Homecoming Week
Students and alumni gather to enjoy a week of fun and celebration brought to you by Student Government and Campus Union Board. Come cheer the Royals men's and women's basketball teams and take in an after-game party with a DJ or local band.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
Sponsored by Multicultural Affairs and Student Activities, the MLK celebration is much more than a day of recognition. It is a day of education, celebration and service.

Midnight on Ice
It's a late night private party on ice! The clock strikes twelve and Queens students head out for an evening of all night skating that leads into Reading Day.

Moravian Love Feast and Tree Lighting Ceremony
Celebrate the beginning of the holiday season with a Moravian Fellowship service. Join the Queens community in Belk Chapel to share in traditional Moravian fare, a candle lighting ceremony, and carols.

Room in the Inn
From January to March, the Queens community hosts six homeless people one night each week. Get involved and minister to the homeless... cook dinner, play games, spend the night or prepare breakfast.

Spring Carnival
The Residential Quad bursts with excitement... play carnival games, participate in wacky Olympic style activities, and listen to bands outside as Queens kicks off the incredible weather of the spring semester!
