THE STRATEGY FOR QUEENS
The strategic analysis of Queens reveals a number of important issues that will influence and shape its long-term strategic plan. Central to the plan must be a strategy for increasing the total revenues generated by the institution. At the present time, the University is not generating sufficient tuition revenue to support the operating expenses of the institution and is far too dependent on unrestricted giving to balance its operating budget. Growing student enrollment, particularly in the College of Arts and Sciences, and thereby increasing the revenue base of the University, must be the first and foremost concern.
Toward that end, enrollment growth has been established as the highest strategic priority for the institution. Queens will focus its energy, talents and resources in ways that will grow our student population and thus contribute to the long-term success of the institution. Long-term, the goals include:
In order to achieve these goals, Queens must develop a plan that leverages its relative strengths, while addressing those weaknesses that hinder its effort to achieve these goals. Further, the plan must capitalize on the opportunities that exist in the marketplace today and protect the institution from existing environmental threats.
In order to fulfill this vision, Queens must pursue a strategy of aggressive growth and development. Such a strategy will ultimately lead to a significantly larger tuition revenue base, greater external support for the activities of the University, and a more vibrant campus community. The university must be better positioned for success as higher education becomes even more competitive in the years to come. Furthermore, and importantly, Queens must be the kind of educational resource and community asset that Charlotte needs and deserves.
A strategy of growth and development requires that we embrace the following five strategic imperatives:
Each of these strategic imperatives is critical to the success of Queens long-term success.
