2009 Senior Class Gift Benefits Students

Senior class Vice - President Pablo Carvajal presents the 2009 Senior Class Gift to the President, Pamela Davies.

The Class of 2009 has recently graduated, but they have left behind a gift that will remind students of their love for Queens. Through fundraising, as well as gifts, the senior class will provide ten new chairs for use in the residential quad. These chairs are used by students and are greatly enjoyed on warmer days whether it is for studying or just relaxing outside.

Class President Molly Hogan and Vice-President Pablo Carvajal worked throughout the year with the senior class to make sure they could provide this gift that would be enjoyed by so many. All together the seniors raised over $2,600 in support of their class gift. The senior class was able to raise funds for their gift through volunteering at the Thunder Road Marathon as well as selling senior class t-shirts and support from parents.

The senior class’s efforts were supported by Dottie McAulay Martin ’59 and her husband Jim Martin who graciously agreed to match every dollar donated by the senior class, meaning that for ever dollar raised by the senior class, the Martins donated another dollar to provide new chairs for the residential quad.

Past senior gifts have included chairs athletic championship banners, an ADA accessible door for the John H. Sykes building and Hayes Residence Hall, as well as monetary gifts to the Billy O. Wireman Presidential Scholarship, and the Wendy L. Waite Journalism Scholarship.
