Nursing
Major ephasis is placed on the academic history of the applicant. The intent is to offer admission to those whose credentials indicate a strong likelihood for success in the associate degree curriculum. The program may not be able to accommodate all applicants who meet the minimum requirements. Queens selects the best qualified candidates from those completing the application process by the deadline and meeting the minimum admissions requirements. Transfer students are encouraged to apply. Applications that are incomplete or not received prior to the deadline will not be reviewed.

Admissions Advising Visits
Students seeking information about the Presbyterian School of Nursing are encouraged to visit our 5th St. campus.
The campus is located at 1901 East 5th St. in Charlotte, NC (1st floor). Walk-ins are welcome Monday through Friday from 10:00-11:00 a.m. or 3:00-4:00 p.m. For holidays and special school events, walk-in hours may not be offered. To see a list of dates when walk-in hours are unavailable, please click here.
If you would like to visit outside of walk-in hours, you must schedule an appointment by sending an email to PSONAdmissions@queens.edu or by calling (704) 337-2276 (option 1). Two-hour parking is available around our building and along 5th Street. Please do not park at Kings College, the Presbyterian Hospital Child Development Center, or the park behind our building or your car may be ticketed and/or towed. Admissions Criteria
These requirements are subject to change. Please check back often for updates. Applications will be reviewed based on the following minimum requirements:
- Graduation from an accredited high school or the equivalent
- Minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale or greater in all previous college coursework (from a regionally accredited institution), if applicable
- Evidence of course completion for Chemistry (high school equivalent or higher) with a grade of C- or higher.
- Evidence of course completion for Algebra I & II (high school equivalent) or College Algebra with a grade of C- or higher.
- Registration with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) I is required for all applicants prior to applying to the deadline of anticipated entry. The CNA program cannot be taken while enrolled in the ASN program. Applicants should not apply until they are listed on the North Carolina Nurse Aid I Registry. Visit the website for the North Carolina DHHS to confirm a listing. Becoming a CNA can be a lengthy process and is typically started 9-12 months prior to when the applicant wishes to enroll. - Complete the undergraduate application and submit all required documents. A checklist is included with the application. A $30 fee will be charged for returned checks.
- Nursing Admissions Entrance Exam (Kaplan)
High School Applicants: Applicants without prior college work will be considered based on their high school record, especially the quality and amount of college-preparatory work, recommendations from the secondary school, and satisfactory scores on the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) or the American College Test (ACT). The ACT Code for Queens is 3148. The SAT code for Queens is 5560. The minimum requirement for the ACT is 21. The minimum requirement for the SAT 1500 for all three sections (reading, writing, & math). Students entering interested in applying directly from high school will be required to take the Nursing Admissions Entrance Exam.
Kaplan Admissions Exam: The exam is a 91-question online, mutiple choice test that evaluates the basic reading, math, writing and science skills of students applying for a nursing program leading to RN licensure. All applicants will be given 165 minutes to complete the exam. There is no cost to take the exam and it may only be taken once at Queens. Test results will be used for entrance into Queens and will not be sent to other institutions. The exam will be given at Queens - 5th St. campus (not the main campus). The 5th St. campus is located at 1901 E. 5th St. in Charlotte, behind Presbyterian Hospital. Applicants interested in study materials may contact Kaplan directly. These dates are scheduled for applicants interested in applying for the Fall 2010 term only.

Application Review
The admissions committee will consider the entire admissions application (including the nursing entrance exam) when making a decision. An applicant's academic history will carry the most weight. Applications will be reviewed within 6-8 weeks of the deadline and will be assigned one of three statuses:
Admitted
Waitlisted
Not Admitted
All applicants will be notified of the admissions committee's decision. Admissions decisions are final and cannot be appealed. Admissions decisions will not be given out by phone, email, or in person.
Clinical Requirements
If you are accepted into the program, the following documents will be requested at a specific time. Please do not submit documentation prior to receiving acceptance into the ASN program.
- Certification in Basic Life Support for Health Professionals is required for enrollment in the ASN program.
- Health requirements for enrollment in the ASN program include health history, standard health care worker immunizations, and a urine drug screen.
- All students in the ASN program must carry personal health insurance throughout the program.
- A criminal background check is also required.

Getting admitted into a nursing program is a huge accomplishment. However, nursing school is rigorous and challenging and requires a serious commitment. Readmission - For students that were admitted and participated in a nursing program
A student who wishes to apply for readmission should (1) submit an application for admission (2) provide official transcripts from all institutions attended since leaving Queens; and (3) submit a personal statement stating their goals and accomplishments since leaving Queens. Students requesting readmission may be required to submit additional documentation to the Nursing Student Qualifications Committee. Readmitted students will be subject to the academic requirements of the Catalog in effect at the time of readmission. Admission is not guaranteed.
