Nursing


In addition to completing all courses prerequisite to the major and the nursing curriculum, candidates for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree must fulfill all of the graduation requirement for the college of admission (either College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) or Hayworth College (HC). 

SECOND DEGREE CANDIDATES

Effective October 8, 2008, a student who has earned a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university and who has been admitted to pursue a second bachelors degree from Queens University of Charlotte is not required to complete the General Education requirements of Queens University of Charlotte.  However, a second degree candidate must meet the university’s residency requirements and all requirements for the major leading to the second degree. 

PREREQUISITE COURSES

 Any transferred courses taken to meet these prerequisites should be comparable as determined by Queens.

Course Description

Anatomy and Physiology I with lab

BIOL 313

 The study of the structure and function of the human body with focus on cells, tissues and the integumentary, skeletal, nervous and muscular systems. Laboratory study is designed to demonstrate anatomical structures and basic physiological principles.
Anatomy and Physiology II with lab

BIOL 314

The study of the structure and function of the human body with focus on the endocrine, reproductive, cardiovascular, digestive, immune, respiratory and urinary systems. Laboratory study is designed to demonstrate anatomical structures and basic physiological principles.
Microbiology (or Bacteriology) with lab

BIOL 120

Principles of microbiology with emphasis on pathogenic bacteria, viruses, rickettsiae and fungi.  Laboratory includes methods for cultivation, isolation and identification of the above.
General (Introductory) Psychology

PSYC 201

Survey of the field of psychology emphasizing the results of scientific investigations in the area of behavior.
Developmental Psychology 
(Life Span or Growth & Development)

PSYC 320

Examination of developmental processes from conception to old age.  The emphasis is on developmental principles, theoretical views and recent research.
Nutrition

NURS 205

Basic principles of human nutrition as it applies to all life cycle stages with emphasis on nutrients and their utilization in the human body.  Food patterns, availability, acceptability and safety are stressed as they relate to individuals and populations.
Statistics

MATH 106

An introduction to data analysis and statistical concepts.  Interpretation and calculations for description of single variables and simple regression, basic probability, random variables, confidence intervals and test of hypothesis.

One of the following 2 courses:

  • Intro to Sociology
  • Intro to Anthropology

High School Chemistry

Current Certified Nursing Assistant-I (CNA-I) Required prior to enrollment
