CHARLOTTE, N.C. (August 23, 2007) — The World’s Largest Standing Lion Sculpture arrived in Charlotte yesterday completing its five-day journey from California. The sculpture was made possible by Irwin Belk, who provided a gift for the track facility at the Queens Sports Complex.
The shipment was greeted by the WCNC-News 6 helicopter team yesterday as it entered Charlotte on Interstate 77. To view the video, please click here.
Installation of the sculpture will begin today under the supervision of Ronnie Frostad of Frostad Atelier, Inc., a foundry in Sacramento, Calif. The sculpture will be lifted by crane onto a 12-foot high brick base with the aid of Rogers Builders, contractor for the Queens Sports Complex.
Queens will officially dedicate the sculpture on September 27.
