Welcome to the Staff Council Web pages!
Thank you for visiting the site. I hope you'll find the information here useful as you get involved with Staff Council, Philanthropic Committee, Queens Community Committee and the Communication Committee.
As my team and I worked through the strategic plan for Queens, we discussed the importance of the commitment of our staff to the achievement of our 2007 plan. Thus, the idea for Team 2007 was born in November 2002. I hoped then that the staff would find a way to rally together and discover ways to make Queens an ideal workplace. In addition, I was eager to have the staff understanding and be committed to the strategic plan for the university. I'm happy to say that my hopes are being realized, and we are making progress.
There are so many good things that can be done through the framework of Team 2007 which has evolved into Staff Council. With growth of the structure to include the Communication Committee, the Queens Community Committee, and the Philanthropic Committee, all staff members — new employees and seasoned veterans — are empowered to make improvements. The key is finding your place and passion. It's easy to sit on the sidelines, but it's so much more beneficial for the community if you'll get involved, do the hard work that's sometimes necessary, and stay engaged.
We have set very aggressive goals for Queens — that's no secret. In order to achieve them, we need every single person who works for the university to see the vision and how he or she fits into that vision. Last summer I read a book called Good to Great by Jim Collins where he spoke of the power of the flywheel in an engine. In order for there to be motion, the flywheel must be pulled. That is what we must do at Queens to realize our dreams — pull on the flywheel every day.
Thank you for all that you are doing to make Queens a premier university. Please make a personal commitment to get involved and stay involved with Staff Council and the committees, and do whatever you can to help us achieve the goals that have been set before us.
