- The Diversity Lecture Series features renowned speakers and facilitators who promote an environment of multicultural understanding. This series will encourage the Queens community and its partners to participate in thoughtful and inclusive dialogue throughout the academic year.
– Utilizing small group formats, the intergroup dialogue will provide an opportunity for members of the Queens community to increase understanding of commonalities and differences, the impact of these experiences, and explore ways of working together towards greater equality and justice. Sample topics may include, but are not limited to campus safety, separation and self-segregation on campus, sexuality and religion, immigration, affirmative action, and reproductive rights.
– An evening of cultural celebrations where students, faculty and staff showcase talents from their respective cultures.
– Provides academic, social, and personal support to underrepresented and first generation students. Additionally, mentors and mentees are empowered to maximize their educational experiences through face-to-face interactions and leadership development opportunities.
– Through participation in community service, teach-ins and celebratory activities, the Queens community and its partners will have the opportunity to reflect on the legacy of Dr. King and others who have made significant contributions to our global society.
- Throughout the academic year OMA collaborates with Queens’ student organizations and other college departments to recognize various cultural and heritage celebrations. These may include, but are not limited to Hispanic Heritage Month, Native American Heritage Month, Islamic Cultural Week, Black History Month, Women’s History Month, Asian Pacific-Islander Heritage Month, and GLBT Pride Month.
We encourage all students, faculty and staff to consider OMA as a resource for your educational needs. OMA supports outreach initiatives in the greater Charlotte community, serves as a campus resource for diversity related issues, and assists with recruitment and retention efforts for students, faculty, and staff.
