Queens University of Charlotte realizes that, as important as academic activities are, much of a student's education occurs outside of the classroom. Day-to-day living experiences and campus activities are valuable components of a well-rounded education. Through group participation and interaction, students come to know themselves as individuals, realize their opportunities and develop the skills needed to become creative members of the University community. To stimulate this process, the University encourages student initiative and responsibility through Student Government, the honor system and a variety of student organizations.
The Office of Student Activities focuses on the "total student" and provides educational, recreational, spiritual, social and cultural opportunities outside the classroom. We work with student leaders to plan and implement quality programs throughout the year. Queens is a small community, so it is easy to get involved in all aspects of the college experience. Students are encouraged and supported in brainstorming ideas, promoting activities and bringing local and regional entertainers to campus. Last year, our students planned over 150 events!
The Student Government Association is the governing body of student clubs and organizations on campus.
“We, the students of Queens University of Charlotte, in order to create a spirit of Unity within the college community, establish high standards of Integrity and Honor, insure the guardianship of Student Rights, afford students the instruments of Self-Governance, promote a sense of Individual Responsibility, secure Cooperation and Communication between students and administrators, and provide channels for the growth of Leadership and development of Legislation, Justice, and Activities among the students of the college of Arts and Sciences.”
— from the Student Government Association Constitution
Each student enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences is a member of the Student Government Association and pays dues in the form of an activities fee, which is part of tuition.

If you are interested in starting a club that does not exist at Queens, you are encouraged to do so. Organizations emerge when individuals with a common interest, or skill, seek to go beyond and develop a greater understanding of their skill or interest.
If you or a group of students are interested in forming a new organization, here are a few steps to get you started:
- Meet with a member of the Student Activities staff to discuss your ideas.
At this meeting, you will be asked the following questions:
What is the purpose of this organization?
Do you know of any other clubs or office on campus that meets this need/purpose already?
Where did the idea for this organization come from?
What other students are interested in this organization?
Have you held an interest meeting?
Do you have at least ten CAS students interested in serving as the core group?
Do you have a faculty/staff advisor in mind?
Is there a national organization with which you will want to affiliate?
Do you know what kinds of programs or events you will offer to the Queens' community?
How much of a budget will this organization need to get started?
How will the organization be structured?
- Once these questions have been answered, the interested group of students will write a constitution and bylaws for the organization in order to outline the basic purpose of the organization and set parameters that govern the action and activities of the organization. An outline and sample constitution and bylaws are available through the Office of Student Activities. It is not necessary to follow this form exactly, but it is important to include all areas that apply.
- Complete a Student Organization Registration form and submit it to the Office of Student Activities with the constitution and bylaws. A committee through Student Life may review the request.
- Once the organization has been approved, attend a Senate meeting to introduce the new club to campus. At this time, a budget may be proposed to Senate for review. Be sure to provide the Office of Student Activities and Senate with a copy of the constitution and bylaws.
For more information, contact the Director of Student Activities at 704 337-2263.
