Life in the Chapel
The Well Chapel Service: Every Thursday, come out to the Belk Chapel for our weekly service during Chapel Hour (11:15-11:45). Our services are planned, led, and attended by students. Its a perfect time to take a break from the hecticness of exams, papers, club meetings and all sorts to enjoy the music of Solace, spend some time in prayer, and be inspired by the words of a sermon.
Did you enjoy Family weekend's sermon? Click here for a copy of "Hearing Voices"
The Well Planning Committee: Are you interested in planning the weekly Chapel services? Two or three times a month the Well Planning Committee meets together to brainstorm and plan the upcoming Chapel services. It is a creative time of idea sharing and laughter. For more information on the next meeting, contact Diane Mowrey at ext 2291.
Manna Mondays: If you miss the delicious home cooked meals that your mom would always make out and are looking for some fellowship and a chance to read something new, then you might enjoy Manna Mondays. Every monday in October, Dr. Diane Mowrey brings a tasty meal to share over the discussion of Martin Luther King Jr.'s sermons, "Strength to Love." In a cozy setting, students are able to talk about radical ideas of servant leadership and justice. Contact Diane Mowrey for more information.
Church Connections: Are you looking for a Church home? Church Connections is a wonderful resource that immediately gives you a link of a faculty or staff member who attends a local church and would love to bring a student with them. Click here to see a copy of the list and please contact either Alice O'Toole or Diane Mowrey if you can't find a Church or a connection that you are looking for.
Tuesday Night Worship: Every Tuesday night, students join together for a time of worship in music and prayer in the Chapel. Lit by candlelight, the setting is peaceful and genuine and is a perfect time to get in touch with your spiritual side. Music is led by Joel Tomkinson ('10) and Erin Mann ('11). Worship starts at 9pm in the Chapel.
Exciting News: Plans for the first Queens' Mission Trip to Northern Ireland
This May, the Chapel at Queens hopes to take 8-15 students to Northern Ireland on a Christian mission trip studying reconciliation and conflict resolution. With the guidance of the Presbyterian Church, we focus on a service learning model closely mirroring Queens' emphasis on education and service. For the educational aspect, we will partake in a walking/driving tour of Belfast, visit organizations working towards solidifying peace (Corrymeela, an Intergrated school, etc) and will meet with people who experienced life during the violence. The seond part of the trip will then be serive orented with a physical work project such as painting, gardening or cleaning up in low income area and possibly even leading a vacation Bible school. If you are interested, come on out to our second Interest Meeting on January 14th at 4:30pm in the Chapel for more info contact either Alice O'Toole or Diane Mowrey.

Each year, a group of 15-16 students and 3 advisors travel to Guatemala during spring break for a mission trip. It is a three fold mission that focuses on learning more about yourself, the people of Guatemala and God. Students prepare with a 3-hr credit semester long class that teaches about the history and the culture of Guatemala and begins to bond the team in preparationfor thier trip. During the 10 days trip the group works on a physical work project, visits co-ops, attends local churches and presentations. It is a trip centered around understanding and growth.
The deadline for applications for the 2009 trip have passed and the selection committee is currently deliberating thier decisions. This year, there was a record breaking 50 applicants!
The 2009 group will be in Guatemala March 7th-16th, 2009.

Room in the Inn
During the months of January through March, Queens opens its doors to neighbors from the Urban Ministry Center. These neighbors are homeless individuals from the Charlotte community who during the cold nights of winter have nowhere to stay. Every Tuesday, the faculty lodge/new Phi Kappa Sigma house becomes a cozy home for the night for six guests. Different clubs and organizations all over campus join together to help set up the lodge, prepare a warm, delicious meal, spend time with our guests, and then cook up a yummy breakfast before taking our guests back to the Transit Center. It is a campus wide effort that embodies our motto, "Not to be served, but to serve."
The Room in the Inn program is based out of the Urban Ministry Center.
