Queens receives $5 million lead gift for new Science Building (6/20/08) The University announced today that the Duke Energy Foundation has committed a generous $5 million lead gift to fund the new 50,000 sq. ft. building that will be home to the Queens science, math, and Presbyterian School of Nursing programs. The building will be named the Duke Energy Sciences & Health Building and will feature an environmentally friendly design and start-of-the-art classrooms and laboratories. Department Purchases new HPLC (8/10/07) The Chemistry Department has recently purchased a new Shimadzu Prominance High Performance Liquid Chromatograph (HPLC) to be used in our chemistry and biochemistry programs. The purchase of the new HPLC was made possible by the generous donation of Jack and Nina Finely in honor of their daughter Teena Finley Middleton '77

New Hire! (4/06/06) We welcome Dr. Greg Pillar as the newest member of our department! Dr. Pillar brings an expertise in, and passion for analtyical and environmental chemistry. He will be working closely with undergraduates in conducting research focused on the environmental fate of organic and inorganic contaminants as well as the use and application of analytical instrumentation in environmental chemistry. Dr. Pillar will have a split appointment serving the Department of Chemistry and the Department of Environmental Sciences and will join the faculity in August, 2006.
Chemistry Faculty receive National Science Foundation (NSF) grant to purchase new Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectrometer (8/20/05). Dr. Andy Tucker and Dr. Dimitra Acheson have been awared a major grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF). The grant funds a three project to improve chemistry laboratory courses and will include the purchase of a Nuclear Magetic Resonance (NMR) spectrometer. The project will revitalize the laboratory curriculum by using the NMR in lower level and upper level courses. The grant was made possible through matching funds donated by Jack and Nina Finley, in honor of their daughter Teena Finely Middleton 77' For details please click here
