Friends of Art at Queens unites Queens University of Charlotte with the Charlotte community through a shared appreciation of the visual arts. A voluntary non-profit association, Friends of Art sponsors lectures and art exhibitions for Queens faculty, students and the general Charlotte community. Friends of Art at Queens has been successful in bringing some of the great artists of our time — including Marisol, Philip Pearlstein, Chuck Close, Christo & Jeanne-Claude, and Judy Chicago — to Charlotte, and provides support for the Queens Art Department and its students by exposing them to artists shaping world opinion. |
Friends of Art at Queens was founded in 1983 by Sarah Toy (1906-1991)-- artist and art educator -- whose vision generated the idea of an art organization and whose dedication led to its establishment. Friends of Art at Queens boasts many dedicated past presidents whose commitment and generosity helped sustain the organization for eighteen years.
