What is the First-Year Experience (FYE)?

At Queens University of Charlotte, we value learning that occurs outside the classroom as well as in your academic courses.  As part of your first-year experience at Queens, you will have the opportunity to attend enriching performances and community events.  You may choose events that best suit your schedule and your interests. 

How many events do I have to attend?

You will choose THREE events per semester.

What I do after I attend an FYE event?

You will submit to your Core professor a one-page paper responding to the performance or event. Your paper may include your response to one aspect of the event, a critique of the performance, or a description of how the event connects to Core.  These should be submitted within a week of your attendance, will be graded Pass/Fail, and will contribute to your participation grade.

What are my choices of events?

Attached is a list of events to give you an idea of what is occurring in the Queens community and in the Charlotte community.  This list will be updated periodically.  You may know of additional educational events that you would like to attend.  If you would like to attend an event not listed, discuss it with your Core professor who may add it to your approved list.

I’m broke!  What if there is an event I want to attend that requires a fee?

If there is a cost associated with the event, save your ticket stub or receipt and turn it into to the Core office or to Dr. Allegretti (McEwen 11) with your Core Professor’s signature.  Up to $20 will be reimbursed for approved events.  Please include your name, receipt, Queens ID number and an address where you would like the Business Office to send your reimbursement.
