Requirements for the B.A. degree with a major in history are as follows:
Core Courses – History majors must take ALL of the following courses: History 201: The Emergence of the West History 202: The West in the World History 203: American History to 1877 History 204: American History since 1877 History 300: Introduction to Research Techniques and Argumentative Writing Fulfils the writing intensive requirement for the major.
Intellectual History – History majors must take ONE of the following courses: History 345: Religion in America History 361: Ideas and Values in Conflict in History History 362: Contemporary Ideas and Values History 363: The History of Our Time History 395: Intellectual History of the United States
Advanced American History – History majors must take ONE of the following courses: History 340: African-American History History 341: The Civil Rights Movement In America History 346: North Carolina History History 348: Recent History of the American South History 349: The Era of the Civil War and Reconstruction History 350: Pop Culture and the Consumer Ethic in America History 352: History of American Journalism History 385: Law and Society in America History 392: American Women History 389: Topics in United States History
Advanced European History – History majors must take ONE of the following courses: History 303: Ancient Greece History 304: Ancient Rome History 305: Medieval History History 306: Early Modern Europe History 309: Contemporary Europe History 310: Ideas and Imagination in Europe, 1789 to Present History 330: British History History 331: Russian History History 332: German History
Advanced History Electives: In addition to the above requirements history majors must take an additional three courses at the 300-level or above. These electives may be in any geographical or topical area.
History majors need to take thirty-three total credit hours in the major to graduate.
Concentrations: History majors must complete a concentration in addition to the major. The selected concentration MAY NOT be in history. As a general guideline, Queens College permits only one course to count towards the completion of a major and a concentration.

The information on this page represents the most up-to-date changes in courses regularly offered by the history faculty. If the information listed below contradicts the information presented in the Course Catalog, then assume that the requirements presented here are correct. Concentrations listed below include both departmental and interdisciplinary concentrations open to all majors. The following concentrations require a minimum of three history courses to be taken in order to complete the concentration.
