CLINICAL TRAINING

On-Campus Music Therapy Clinic

At the close of the academic year, Music Therapy clients and the majors who work with them participate in an Annual Spring Celebration held on campus in Belk Chapel. On this program majors and clients share with family and friends an activity they have experienced in weekly sessions. It is a wonderful time for clients to share their love of music!

Off-Campus Clinicals

Music therapy majors begin their clinical training with an individual client in the Music Therapy Clinic. All majors continue to work with an individual client throughout the entire four years. In addition, sophomores, juniors, and seniors also work with groups of children and adults. These groups include children in special needs classrooms, older adults in nursing and residential facilities, adults and children in a mental health center, and women in a breast cancer support group.

Music Therapy majors at Queens start right away gaining clinical experience that many majors at other universities often don't begin until their junior year. Queens is one of a few universities in the Southeast with an on-campus Music Therapy Clinic. This clinic provides individual weekly music therapy sessions for children and young adults with special needs (clients). Each major, under the supervision of a Board Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC), learns how to assess, plan, implement, document, and evaluate appropriately for his/her client. This hands-on training begins the first semester of the freshman year and continues throughout the senior year. Students progress from observing and co-leading sessions with the clinical supervisor to leading sessions independently.
