It is very possible that during an actual emergency, you will receive duplicate messages. Depending on the severity of the threat to the safety and security of the campus community, Queens may use one or more of the communication methods available.
5.) Does Queens test QAlert?
Yes, at least one time per semester.
6.) When will you deactivate my QAlert subscription?
Your subscription will remain active through the academic year until August 1, at which time you will need to re-register for QAlert as a new user. Your account will be deactivated if:
- You do not re-register.
- You unsubscribe yourself by logging into the QAlert system.
- During one of our tests, the text message is returned as undeliverable. If this happens, we will attempt to contact you via e-mail to request the correct information. If we are unable to contact you, we will automatically deactivate your subscription.
We will make every effort to notify you if your subscription is deactivated.
7.) What happens if I choose not to subscribe to QAlert?
You will not receive emergency alerts on your cell phone via text or voicemail. You will continue to receive alerts via other methods, such as direct campus e-mail.
We strongly suggest that you take a few minutes to sign up.
8.) Is there a charge for subscribing to QAlert?
Queens will not charge the subscriber a fee for the alert system. However, please check with your cellular provider to determine what, if any, charges might result from receiving text messages.
9.) Why do text messages show up as coming from a four- or five-digit number?
This is the code our service provider uses for Queens. You will see this number whenever you receive a text message from QAlert.
10.) Who do I contact if I have a question that's not answered here?
Feel free to e-mail alert@queens.edu with any additional questions or concerns.
