She is a member of the board of collectors of the Mint Museum in Charlotte and is a grant reader for the National Humanities Research Center. She authored The Scandinavian Pupils of the Atelier Bonnat (2002), and co-edited Funding Challenges and Successes in Arts Education (2018). She is currently working on a book on Black Mountain College of North Carolina and its implications for 21st-century education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She published a chapter on \u201cTransformative Learning through Creative Literacy,\u201d in <em>Pedagogies for the Visual in Innovative Learning<\/em> (2019) and co-published the chapter \u201cCritical Thinking, Critical Looking: Key characteristics of an educated person\u201d in <em>Cases on Teaching Critical Thinking through Visual Representation Strategies<\/em> (2014). Her most recent articles include: \u201cDeveloping the Cultural Image Literary Assessment-USA,\u201d in the <em>Journal of Visual Literacy<\/em> (2017); \u201cHelping Students Transition to Critical and Creative Thinking at the Intersection of Communication and Art,\u201d in the <em>International Journal of Humanities and Social Science<\/em> (2012); \u201cCreativity and the Transformation of Higher Education: The need for a Black Mountain College Approach,\u201d in the <em>Oxford Forum on Public Policy<\/em> (2013); and \u201cVisual Literacy and the digital native: Another look,\u201d in the <em>Journal of Visual Literacy<\/em> (2013).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She has lectured nationally and internationally at the Humanities Education and Research Association, the National Communication Association Conference, the International Visual Literacy Association, the Revisiting Black Mountain College International Conference, the Oxford Roundtable, and the International Conference on the Arts in Society.
