Steven Cox, Ph.D.
Dr. Steven Cox teaches marketing in the graduate and undergraduate business programs, and served as chairman and associate dean of the undergraduate program from 2008-14. His primary research interests include sales leadership and consumer behavior.
He has conducted research studies for numerous Charlotte business and nonprofit organizations, including TRREX, Dunbrooks, Goodwill Industries, BYB, BB&T, Avantgarde Translations and the U.S. National Whitewater Center. His research findings have been published in numerous scholarly journals and featured at academic meetings.
Dr. Cox began his career as an assistant professor of marketing at Virginia Tech before making the leap to industry, where he spent the next 25 years. He has held management positions in marketing and sales with AT&T, General Electric, EOSAT and Orbital Sciences, and has lead teams responsible for domestic, U.S. government and international sales. While working with Orbital Sciences and EOSAT, a joint venture between GE and Hughes Aircraft, he developed and managed a worldwide sales and distribution network with offices in Asia, Africa, Europe, Australia and Latin America. More recently, Dr. Cox became chief executive officer of a geographic information systems company that serves the mapping needs of several corporate and government clients.
He returned to university teaching in 2003, and was awarded the Outstanding Business Professor Award in spring 2006 at Meredith College. He joined the Queens faculty in fall 2006.
