Graduate Admission Process

Step One: Submit Your Application

Step Two: Send Official Transcript(s)

You must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and submit transcripts from all colleges and/or universities you have attended.

Official paper transcripts – must be in a sealed envelope and mailed directly from the college or university to: Graduate Admissions, 1900 Selwyn Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28274.

Electronic transcript format – should be emailed directly from your college or university to graduateadmissions@queens.edu.

Step Three: Additional Information Required by Graduate Program

Each of the Queens graduate programs is uniquely tailored to make sure you are set up for success, so additional required materials vary by program.

Personal Statement: Submit a personal statement addressing the following questions within the Personal Statement Guidelines.

Current Resume or Curriculum Vitae: Applicants are required to submit a current resume outlining work experience, qualifications, and skills. This document can be uploaded to the online application.

Experience: Applicants must have at least 2 years of professional teaching experience.

Personal Statement: Applicants are required to submit a personal statement describing your professional and personal goals.

Internship Requirement: Connection to public, private or charter school to complete internship requirements.

The interview provides an opportunity to get to know you better, put additional context around your application, and evaluate your admissions file from a holistic perspective.

NC Teaching License: Current teachers seeking graduate certificate with license option, must submit a copy of a valid, non-provisional, non-expired NC teaching license.

Personal Statement: Applicants are required to submit a personal statement describing your professional and personal goals.

Personal Statement: Applicants are required to submit a one page, single-spaced personal statement, which speaks to what you expect to gain from the program and what you hope to contribute to it.

Letter of Recommendation: Applicants are required to submit one letter of recommendation. The recommendation should be from an academic or professional contact who can address your intellectual capacity, skillset, abilities, and readiness for graduate school.

Writing Sample: Applicants are required to submit a writing sample for each genre applying for. Please submit one document per genre, regardless of the number of individual pieces included in the sample for that genre. Pages should be numbered and the applicant’s name, the title, and genre of the piece should appear in the header or footer of each page.

  • Fiction and Nonfiction portfolios should be about 25 double-spaced pages.
  • Writing for Stage and Screen portfolios should be 25 formatted pages.
  • Poetry portfolios should be 10 single-spaced pages. (Please place only one poem per page for poems less than a page long.)

Application Fee: Applicants are required to pay a $50 application fee. You’ll receive instructions for paying this fee after submitting your application.

Nursing License: You need a current, unrestricted license to practice nursing in the state where you intend to complete your clinical requirements.

Degree Requirement: An Associate Degree in Nursing or above is required to apply.

Step Four: Optional Testing by Graduate Program

While the testing is not required, a GMAT or GRE score may be requested by the admissions committee if more information is needed to make an admission decision. Additionally, a strong GMAT or GRE will strengthen your overall file and may qualify you for additional scholarship or fellowship awards.

To send your scores to the McColl School of Business:

While the testing is not required, a GRE score may be requested by the admissions committee if more information is needed to make an admission decision.

Official, passing GRE scores of 150 Verbal and 150 Quantitative will be considered.
