Biography

My name is Dr. Jason DeFreitas, DNP. As a Presbyterian School of Nursing graduate (Class of ’07) I have experienced many joys in my nursing journey. I recently completed and successfully defend my DNP project this summer and can honestly say that I am done with school. The support I have received from family, friends, and colleagues has been overwhelming and I am truly blessed with so much support. Prior to receiving my DNP, I completed degrees at UNCC and the University of Phoenix respectively (BSN ’12 and MSN/MHA ’18). I look forward to what the future has in store for me as a doctoral prepared nurse.

I decided to step away from bedside nursing last November ’22 after a long thirteen-year career. Although much of my nursing experience is in serving clients with cardiac conditions, I do have some experience in nursing supervision and Pain Management. As a full-time instructor at Queens staring in January ’21, I have had the privilege of serving and instructing students in both the classroom and clinical setting. Making sure that my students are well equipped for professional practice prior to exiting nursing school, is why I find joy and satisfaction in being a nursing instructor.

I have a wonderful, blended family consisting of four boys (all under twelve years old) and a loving wife. We live in Shelby, NC, west of Charlotte. Every day is an adventure with family. I am truly the luckiest man alive to be blessed with such a good family.
