Welcome to The Arts at Queens, which connects the University’s academic departments and programs in the arts. Our mission is to enrich our students’ experience with the arts through collaborations and innovations, and to link the arts on campus with the greater Charlotte community.
The arts are immediately visible to those driving or walking along Selwyn Avenue at the edge of our campus, where we have installed “Triple Arc I” by James Rosati, a landmark American sculptor. The sculpture is on loan from the Jerald Melberg Gallery in Charlotte. We hope it inspires members of the community to learn more about our public events, to attend our performances and visit our gallery. At Queens, we offer cultural events each semester, sponsoring distinguished visitors and showcasing student talent. Our efforts are graciously supported by the Friends of Music, the Friends of Art and the College of Arts and Sciences.
Queens provides a variety of opportunities for students to encounter the arts, through the Core program’s First Year Experience and through the John Belk International Program’s study tours for juniors, which regularly include visits to the world’s important museums. Our students may select majors in the Fine Arts and in the literary arts in the Humanities, and they learn in both the academic classroom and through studio work. Students may choose from a number of concentrations in the arts, including graphic design, arts management and music history. Among our offerings, prospective students will find one of the oldest Music Therapy programs in the Southeast. They will find our highly selective low-residency graduate MFA program in creative writing. They will find opportunities to perform as part of the Dance Club, participate in the production of plays, and serve as editors for Signet, Queens’ student literary magazine.
