Biography

Dr. JoAndrea Costner began her nursing career in 1995, after obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from UNC-Charlotte. While working as a staff nurse on a detox and med-surg unit at Mercy Hospital, she continued her education at UNCC, earning a Master of Science in Nursing degree, with a focus on Community Health in 1999. She began her teaching career at a diploma program, Mercy School of Nursing, where she taught Fundamentals of Nursing from 2000 to 2014. In August 2015, she transitioned to Queens University of Charlotte. She has taught Community Health Nursing (classroom and clinical), Concepts of Professional Nursing, created and taught a Queens Health and Wellness course, and created the Population Health Course for the RN-MSN track. On July 31, 2019, Dr. Costner completed the studies for the Doctor of Education in Curriculum and Instruction program from Capella University. She currently serves as Chair of the BSN Program and Clinical Education Coordinator.
