Day of Scholarship and Service
A New Tradition at Queens
At Queens University of Charlotte, we believe in the power of traditions. On Wednesday, April 9, we launched a brand new tradition that exemplifies the heart of our university — the Day of Scholarship and Service. This day was designed to showcase our students’ academic achievements while giving back to the community that surrounds our campus. It’s a chance for all of us to live and breathe the Queens motto, “Not to be served, but to serve.”
Scholarship on Display
The morning of the Day of Scholarship and Service was dedicated to celebrating the intellectual achievements of our students. A total of 105 students gathered to present 66 research projects in a poster and conference-style format.
Each student had the opportunity to share their work with peers, faculty, and staff, sparking meaningful conversations and academic collaboration. The presentations highlighted the thoughtfulness, insight, and dedication that Queens students bring to their studies.

“The moment I was most inspired by while presenting my research was when I realized four of my professors (both past and present) had come to support me. People talk a lot about how having strong relationships with professors is such a benefit of going to a small school but observing that in action was much more powerful.” – Maura O’Toole ’26
United for a Cause
In the afternoon, around 310 members of the Queens community came together to live out our motto, “Not to be served, but to serve.” Through a partnership with Servants With a Heart, over 310 students, faculty, and staff members joined forces to pack 50,000 meals for individuals facing food insecurity in Charlotte and beyond.

A New Tradition Takes Root
“The Day of Scholarship & Service was an opportunity for members of our community to come together, connect, and highlight the meaningful academic strides that our students are making here at Queens. By suspending classes for the day, pausing our regular activities, and dedicating time to learn from each other and serve those in need, we fostered a deeper sense of community and shared purpose.” – Daniel Terry, associate provost for the undergraduate experience
Thank you to everyone who supported this event. Your enthusiasm and dedication helped bring this tradition to life, and we look forward to seeing how it evolves in the years to come.
