Learning Society Membership

The Learning Society is powered by members who believe in the transformative power of ideas. Their support brings influential voices to Queens and Charlotte, creating opportunities for thought-provoking conversations and enriching student experiences both inside and outside the classroom.

Membership is open to all who share a passion for lifelong learning and meaningful dialogue. Annual memberships are available at two levels: Scholar’s Circle and President’s Circle, each offering unique opportunities to connect with speakers, fellow members, and the vibrant intellectual life of Queens.

Membership Benefits

Scholars Circle Members

• Ticket(s) to both lectures (fall & spring), with reserved seating at each event.
• Access to private receptions before and after lectures, where members enjoy a variety of food, drinks, and plenty of time to dialogue on the topic of the evening, as well as a meet and greet with the speaker post-lecture.
• Reserved lecture parking.
• Invitations to the additional members-only Member Salon and Summer Cocktail each year.
• Advanced notice of future speakers and events.
• Access to early ticket sales for friends and family for each lecture.

President’s Circle Members

President’s Circle Members enjoy all the Scholar’s Circle Member benefits plus:

• Premier reserved seating at each lecture (fall & spring).
• Invitation to the President’s Circle intimate pre-lecture cocktail reception at the President’s house.
• Private reception with the speaker before the lecture.
• Private car transportation to and from the theatre.
• Invitation to the New Member Reception to meet the newest members of the Learning Society.

Additional Events

New Member Reception

A reception designed to welcome new members who have most recently joined the Learning Society alongside the President’s Circle level at the President’s House. New members can network with longtime members and university staff as they learn more about the lecture series.

Member Salon

While the lectures cover national and international topics, the Salon is an intimate gathering of members where they engage with community thought leaders on a hyper-local topic. Some prior Salon topics are: “Jewels in the Queen City’s Crown – Outdoor Amenities, Environmental Resources, and Good Stewardship that Make Charlotte a Leading City,” “Meeting Transportation and Infrastructure Needs: How Prosperity and Sustainability Intersect,” “Healthcare in the USA: What Works, What’s Broken, and What Can We Do to Make It Better,” and “Charlotte as a Global City for Food Culture (including an optional Food Tour with Charlotte Historian, Tom Hanchett).”

Summer Cocktail

For members and prospective members only, this annual membership party offers cocktails and conversation with a first look at the upcoming year’s speaker series.
