Career Courses

With the help of the Vandiver Center, you can get more than just an internship. You get career preparation, relationships, and experience that will help you translate a well-rounded education into a successful career. Our innovative professional development program is taught by industry leaders in recruiting, learning and development, and represents companies like Ally Financial, Amazon, Bank of America, Novant Health, Ryan Seacrest Foundation, Sealed Air, and more.  These industry experts will help you reflect on work experiences and gain knowledge and confidence to start your careers.

All undergraduate students participate in internships, clinicals (nursing), and practicums (music therapy & education) to gain experience outside of the classroom. You are required to complete a professional development program that includes Career Connections, a course that introduces you to the workplace, and subsequent internship courses that accompany on-site work.

Courses

INT 201 – Career Connections

In this course, students learn professional and career-related skills that prepare them for internships and future employment. Through lectures and interactive assignments, students gain an understanding of professional interests, workplace fundamentals, effective resume/cover letter writing, interviewing, and job search strategies. A signature piece of this course is the mock interview program where students practice interviewing with a real employer and receive helpful feedback. Organizations like Atrium Health, Charlotte Hornets, and Wells Fargo are regular mock interviewers.

INT 400s – Professional Internship

In this course, students participate in professional internships for academic credit. Not only are you working with organizations, building your networks, and building your resume, but you’re also completing engaging assignments that encourage reflection on leadership, diversity in the workplace, the pros and cons of graduate school, and planning for industry trends.
