The Queens Community showed up in a big way for QUnited 2024, our milestone tenth year gathering on campus and around the world to celebrate students, faculty, and staff. 

At the end of the day on February 29 over 1,000 donors from all 50 states gave over $540,000! This amazing accomplishment means that over ten years QUnited has raised over $2 million to support transformational educational experiences at Queens.

On behalf of the entire Queens community, THANK YOU again for all of our alumni, students, families, and friends for helping us prepare students for purposeful and meaningful lives.

Queens Names Michael P. Rizer Trustee Emeritus. On February 21 Michael “Mike” P. Rizer was recognized as last year’s singular new Trustee Emeritus. Rizer, executive director of corporate citizenship at Ally Charitable Foundation, served two terms on Queens’ Board of Trustees from 2015-2023.

Meredith MacLeod Jaulin ‘11 Attributes Her Impressive Accomplishments to Her Experience While a Student at Queens. Jaulin, executive director of a nonprofit called Shower the People, also serves as Queens’ Nashville Alumni Chapter President.

Malek Jandali ’97 Premiered Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra at George Mason University. The March 9 concerto included the Fairfax Symphony and Anthony McGill, principal clarinetist of the New York Philharmonic.

First Destination Report Reveals 97% Success Rate for Class of 2023 After Graduation. A 97% of graduates are employed, in graduate school, completing and internship, or working for a service organization. Read more about how Queens prepares students for meaningful careers.

Professor Empowering First-Gen Students in the Sciences. Yvette Clifton, Ph.D., assistant professor of chemistry and general education, provides a supportive environment to discuss challenges, explore ideas or simply connect for all of her students.

Nursing Professor Incorporates the Art of Healing into Career Explorations. JoAndrea Costner, Ed.D., MSN, RN, CNE, encourages aspiring nurses to embark on a journey of self-discovery before committing to a career in health care.

Dan Buettner, Bestselling Author of “The Blue Zones,” Speaks to a Sold-Out Audience at Queens. Buettner delivered an insightful presentation entitled “Unlocking the Secrets of Happiness” and named five places across the globe where people live the longest, healthiest lives.

Dr. Kandi Deitemeyer Honored as 2023 Charlotte BusinessWoman of the Year. Queens recognized the incredible work being done in higher ed leadership by presenting the 2023 Charlotte BusinessWoman of the Year Award to Dr. Kandi Deitemeyer, president of Central Piedmont Community College.

ACCIS College Counselors Converge on Queens Campus. For the second year in a row, Queens welcomed visiting college counselors from the Association of College Counselors in Independent Schools (ACCIS) for an Equity and Innovation Summit.

Queens Students Win Statewide Ethics Bowl for Second Year in a Row. With the theme, “Ethics in Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity,” Queens proudly secured the first place title over 17 other North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities (NCICU).

Two Davies Fellows Cultivate Meaningful Conversation and Community Programming on Campus.  After applying for the Davies Fellowship, Maggie Dineen ‘25 and Sophie Lange ‘24 were given the opportunity to reflect on their own faith-based or philosophical values while serving as campus leaders, engaging in community outreach, and researching in academic and co-curricular settings.

Sydney Lash ‘24 Plans to Pursue Her Doctorate in Epidemiology. Lash, a High Point native, credits her scholarship and opportunities at Queens for helping realize her passion for healthcare. 

Autumn Pointe ‘24 Uses Her Capstone Project to Embrace Her HAIRitage.  Pointe leverages oil painting self-portraits to tell her story as a North Carolina native and first-generation student.

Christian Dodd ‘25 Finds His Purpose with Music Therapy at Queens. Dodd grew up with a love for percussion instruments. Queens helped him build his confidence and expand his skills with voice, guitar, and piano.

Dan Mallory, Pen Name A.J. Finn, Speaks on March 25. Friends of the Library hosts #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Woman In the Window after the release of this second book, End of Story.

Men’s Lacrosse Hosts Jacksonville on April 6. This game’s noon start will be the team’s third home ASUN Conference matchup this season and the last home game before Mercer on April 20.

Rosanne Cash, Grammy Award Winning Singer-Songwriter, Performs on April 6. Cash is also the author of four books and one of only a handful of women to be elected to the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Women’s Lacrosse Hosts Coastal Carolina on April 13. Youth Day features Kona Ice and free entry for 8th graders and younger wearing lacrosse gear. Final regular season home games are April 17 and 20.

Presbyterian School of Nursing Virtual Information Session on April 16. Learn about 100% online Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and Post-Master Certificates with specialized tracks for divers career goals.

Online MHA Program Virtual Information Session on April 22. Learn about the interdisciplinary approach and real-world curriculum with Queens’ Master of Health Administration (MHA) program in the Blair College of Health.

Queens Chamber Orchestra and UNC Charlotte Orchestra Perform on April 22. Two musical groups combine forces as Orchestra Mosaic to present selections from the major classics.

Baseball Hosts Davidson on April 30. Our Royals host the Wildcats after travelling up to Davidson for a game on April 2.
